SUMMERWEEN IS UPON US. And let me just say, Summerween is perhaps my favorite thing to ever happen. I have long believed Halloween deserves a longer runway for buildup in the year, and finally the culture has caught up to my brilliant mind. So in celebration of all things summery and spooky, I give you this list full of horror reads perfect for the summer months! Now if you’ll excuse me – “Hey Siri, find the nearest horror movie drive-in theater.”
This one is for my historical horror fans! Set in 1921, this paranormal horror features an aging heiress who invites four girls into her manor to compete for the chance to become the heir to her vast fortune. But our four debutantes will have to contend with more than just each other – there’s something sinister hiding behind the walls of Greystone Manor and it doesn’t intend to let them leave alive.
This darkly atmospheric horror will keep you up at night – ask me how I know! An ode to female rage, So Witches We Became follows high school senior Nell and her friends as they spring break in a vacation house on a private Florida island. But the island is not all that it seems, and when a toxic, vengeful mist descends, Nell will need to risk her friendships, her sanity, and her life if she is to have any chance of getting out alive.
