Editorial

Margaret Lennon

VP, Publisher

Margaret Lennon is VP & Publisher of Storey Publishing, a uniquely collaborative group of creatives focused on empowering non-fiction experts to reach their audience through practical and inspiring works. She joined Storey in 2002 as part of the sales department and gained a love of connecting authors to enthusiasts before becoming Associate Publisher in 2017. She previously held roles at Houghton Mifflin and Charlesbridge Publishing.

Carleen Madigan

Editorial Director

Carleen Madigan joined Storey Publishing in 2004. Her acquisitions work focuses primarily on books related to gardening, homesteading, self-sufficiency, foraging, food preserving, and medicinal herbs. Some of her best-selling titles include: The Backyard Homestead, The Illustrated Herbiary, How to Forage for Mushrooms without Dying, Christopher Hobbs’s Medicinal Mushrooms, Freeze Fresh, Herbal Medic, and the James Beard award–winning Butchering Poultry, Rabbit, Lamb, Goat, and Pork. She is a graduate of Wellesley College.

Hannah Fries

Senior Editor

Hannah Fries acquires many nonfiction books related to science, nature, and outdoor skills. She is also interested in how these subjects cross and connect with other disciplines such as poetry and the arts. Her titles for Storey include Let’s Botanize! and Maria Popova’s The Universe in Verse. She also acquires nonfiction books for children, such as World of Rot by Britt Crow-Miller. Before joining Storey, she was an editor at Orion magazine, at the forefront of the nature-writing genre. A graduate of Dartmouth College, she holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College and is the author of the books Little Terrarium, Being with Trees, and a forthcoming collection of lyrical essays.

Kristen Hewitt

Senior Editor

Kristen Hewitt acquires adult and children’s non-fiction for Storey Publishing, in nature/environment, holistic health and wellness, creativity and mindfulness, food, gardening and how-to, craft, and self-help. She’s also interested in graphic nonfiction, essays, humor, and narrative nonfiction that intersects with these categories. Before joining Storey, she was an editor at PA Press/Chronicle Books. She has an MFA in poetry from Warren Wilson College.

Gwen Hawkes

Editor

Gwen Hawkes is an editor with Storey Publishing. She acquires a range of practical nonfiction with a focus on cooking and food, DIY and craft, wellness, and nature. She loves books that are tasty, creative, or leave you a little bit wonderstruck. Before joining Storey, she worked at St. Martin’s, St. Martin’s Essentials, and Hachette Go acquiring a variety of prescriptive nonfiction. She lives in New York City with “too many” books, “too much” yarn, and a fire escape garden that has yielded a bumper crop of three peas. She is a graduate of Duke University.

Sarah Slattery

Project Editor

Sarah Slattery edits books across all genres that Storey publishes, including cookbooks, herbal books, gardening titles, and wellbeing. She has a particular interest in and occasionally acquires cookbooks and well-being/spirituality titles.  She has edited Freeze Fresh, The Moon Cycle Cookbook, The Gratitude Explorer Workbook, Survival Gardening, and Miso, Tempeh, Natto. She is a graduate of Carleton College.

Tatum Wilson

Associate Editor

Tatum Wilson’s areas of interest include cooking, gardening, crafting, and nature. Before transitioning to editorial, she worked in Storey’s marketing and publicity departments, managing the campaigns for titles such as The Lavender Companion, The Garlic Companion, and The Art of Embroidery Design. Wilson studied at Bowdoin College and has spent time working on farms and in professional kitchens in New England. She currently serves on the board of Williamstown Rural Lands, a land conservation trust in western Massachusetts.
