HBG Big News This Week: April 2-6, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of April 2-6, 2018:

Bestsellers: HBG has 17 titles on the New York Times Bestseller list dated April 15, including two #1s—Russian Roulette by Michael Isikoff and David Corn (Twelve) remains at #1 on the Print Hardcover (Nonfiction) list. James Patterson’s All American-Murder (Little, Brown) holds onto #1 on the Sports and Fitness (Monthly) list. HBG’s distribution clients have three titles on the list this week. Hugo Awards: The nominations for the 2018 Hugo Award, the world’s premier SF awards, were announced last weekend, and Orbit has a very impressive four out of the six nominees in the Best Novel category—The Stone Sky by N. K. Jemisin, Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty, Provenance by Ann Leckie, and New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson. PublicAffairs has its first-ever Hugo Award nomination, for Zoe Quinn’s Crash Override, which was nominated in the Best Related Work category. Winners will be announced in August.

One Book, One New York: Esmeralda Santiago’s When I Was Puerto Rican (Da Capo) is one of the five finalist titles for One Book, One New York, the largest community reading program in the country. Readers can cast their votes throughout the month of April for one book among the five—the nominees are Behold the Dreamers, Manhattan Beach, If Beale Street Could Talk, When I Was Puerto Rican, and White Tears—that will be the city-wide read this summer. 2018 Southern Book Prize: The 2018 Southern Book Prize longlist has been announced and two Little, Brown books have been nominated—Desperation Road by Michael Farris Smith in the Southern Fiction category and Deep Run Roots by Vivian Howard in the Nonfiction category. Finalists will be announced April 16, and winners on July 4 (“Independents Day”).

April Picks: the iBooks favorites for April include The Recovering by Leslie Jamison (L,B), The Fallen by David Baldacci (GCP), Circe by Madeline Miller (L,B), And Now We Have Everything by Meaghan O’Connell (L,B). Amazon’s Spotlight Pick for April is Madeline Miller’s Circe, and we also have books selected in many other categories.
