(New York, NY) This week, the Audio Publishers Association (APA), the premier trade organization for audiobook professionals, announced their selections for The Audie Awards ®. Hachette Audio was honored with six nominations, including Audiobook of the Year for Sing a Black Girl’s Song, a newly discovered trove of unpublished work by the poet and playwright Ntozake Shange.
In their audiobook review, The New York Times wrote “it is only fitting that the audiobook version of this compilation of previously unpublished writing brings together a chorus of Black voices – the seasoned narrator Robin Miles, the #MeToo activist Tarana Burke, the actress Alfre Woodard, the playwright Ifa Bayeza, and the author’s daughter, the academic Savannah Shange, among others – who breathe exuberant life into Shange’s language.”
Other nominations recognize works by well-known performers Rainn Wilson (“The Office”) and comedian Leslie Jones; star narrators Robin Miles, Christine Lakin, and Saskia Maarleveld; and award-winning writers N.K. Jemisin, Kevin Powers, and Holly Black. The APA will announce the winners live on March 4th at the Audies Gala.
Celebrating the industry’s achievements in production and performance, the Audie Awards® is the leading award given annually in the United States to honor audiobooks and spoken word entertainment. Spanning twenty-seven categories, the program recognizes and awards the previous year’s finest work and talent in this format.
The Audio Publishers Association travels to Los Angeles this year to celebrate the 29th Audies Gala at theAvalon on March 4th, 2024. Authors, narrators, publishers, producers, and distinguished judges will all be at the fete to celebrate the honorees and their work.
Reacting to the news of the six finalists, Ana Maria Allessi, VP, Publisher, Hachette Audio praised all involved: “Kudos to all our nominees! What a privilege and a joy it is to celebrate our authors, narrators, and producing team, all of whom possess immense talent and dedication to the art of audiobooks. “
