HBG Big News This Week: April 16-20, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of April 16-20, 2018:

Pulitzer Prize!: Andrew Sean Greer’s Less (L,B) has been awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, considered the preeminent recognition for a novel in American letters. In its citation, the Pulitzer board called Less “A generous book, musical in its prose and expansive in its structure and range, about growing older and the essential nature of love.” Congratulations, Little, Brown!

Bestsellers: HBG has 19 titles on the New York Times Bestseller list dated April 29, including two #1s—Circe by Madeline Miller (Little, Brown) debuts at #1 on the Print Hardcover Fiction list. James Patterson’s All American-Murder (Little, Brown) remains at the #1 position on the Sports & Fitness (Monthly) list. HBG’s distribution clients have four titles on the list this week, including one #1—Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo by Marlon Bundo with Jill Twiss (Chronicle) tops the Children’s Bestsellers (Picture Books) list. Community Service Day: HBG had its first Community Service Day on Wednesday, with close to 600 colleagues across our 8 locations taking part. Thanks to all  who volunteered their time, care, and enthusiasm!

Walter Scott Prize: Paul Lynch’s novel Grace has been shortlisted for the 2018 Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the world. Grace has also been nominated for the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award 2018.

Acquisition news: GCP announced the acquisition of a hilarious and poignant collection, I Might Regret This, by acclaimed actor, writer, producer, illustrator, and New York Times bestselling author Abbi Jacobson. Jacobson is one of the series creators, executive producers, and stars of Comedy Central’s critically acclaimed hit show Broad City. The book will be published on October 30, 2018.
