CODE GIRLS: Stories – Ms. Parker

CODE GIRLS

Ms. Parker

My mother was a “Code Girl” and was stationed here in Washington, not more than a mile from my home in Northwest DC!

Although my mom passed away over 40 years ago, I remember trying on her WAVE uniform as a little girl while she told me about her time in DC. She never said more than she helped to break the Japanese code and never offered up any additional information to us. She did tell me about walking down Massachusetts Avenue with her friends and looking at all the beautiful clothes in Garfinkel’s and getting a sandwich at Wagshall’s.
