David Shelley

David Shelley is Chief Executive Officer of Hachette Book Group, which comprises nine publishing groups – Basic Books Group; Grand Central Publishing; Hachette Books; Hachette Nashville; Little, Brown and Company; Little, Brown Books for Young Readers; Orbit; Running Press Group; and Workman Publishing. He is also the CEO of Hachette UK.

David started his career at independent publisher Allison & Busby in 1997, running the company from 2000-2005. He joined Little, Brown as Editorial Director in 2005. Appointed by Ursula Mackenzie, he initially commissioned mainly crime and thriller novels and oversaw the audio and ebook lists, becoming Publisher of their commercial imprint Sphere in 2007, then overall Little, Brown Publisher in 2011. Authors he published include Mitch Albom, Mark Billingham, Patricia Cornwell, Carl Hiaasen, Dennis Lehane, Val McDermid and J.K. Rowling.  He became CEO of Orion and Little, Brown in 2015, and in January 2018 became Group CEO of Hachette UK, which is the second-largest consumer publisher in the UK. David is an Officer and past president of the Publishers Association. He is also a trustee of The Reading Agency and a director of Tate Enterprises.
