Theo Calderara joined Basic Books Group as Editor in Chief of Basic Books in July of 2026. In addition to acquiring titles of his own, he oversees overall editorial strategy for the Basic Books imprint. Prior to joining BBG, he spent more than twenty-five years at Oxford University Press in a number of roles, including Editor in Chief, Humanities. Among the notable titles he published at OUP are The Flag and the Cross by Philip S. Gorski and Samuel L. Perry, Vengeance Is Mine by Richard E. Turley and Barbara Jones Brown, and Christian Smith’s Why Religion Went Obsolete.
