HBG Big News This Week: October 15-19, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of October 15-19, 2018:

Bestseller news: New to the New York Times bestseller list this week and charting high are Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel by Val Emmich with Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (Poppy) at #2 on the Young Adult hardcover list, and James Patterson & Chris Grabenstein’s Max Einstein: The Genius Experiment  (JIMMY Patterson) at #2 on the Middle School hardcover list. We have 20 titles on the list this week and our distribution clients have seven titles.

Nick Sparks!: Sparks’s highly anticipated new novel Every Breath (GCP) pubbed this week, launching with Nick’s amazing interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, a great ABC-TV Satellite Tour, interview on Good Day, New York, live hit on Cheddar, and massive social media and marketing campaigns to carry the book through the holidays and beyond.

Publicity blitz: Julián Castro was busy busy this week promoting his new memoir An Unlikely Journey (LB), with interviews on CBS This Morning, MSNBC’s Morning Joe and Alex Witt, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, CNN/PBS’sAmanpour & Company and Tonight with Don Lemon, Univision’s Al Punto with Jorge Ramos, Buzzfeed AM to DM, Salon Talks, BBC America Beyond 100 Days, CBS Red & Blue, People en Español, Associated Press, Politico, CNN New Day, and CNN Español.

African American Lit Award: Franchesca Ramsey’s Well, That Escalated Quickly (GCP) was named Best Book in the Comedy/Humor category at the 14th Annual African American Literary Awards Show. First presented in 2004, the African American Literary Awards Show recognizes, honors, celebrates and promotes the outstanding achievements and contributions of African-American authors and writers.

Washington State Book Awards: The Seattle Times announced the winners of the Washington State Book Awards this week, and Mozart’s Starling by Lyanda Lynn Haupt (LB) won in the Nonfiction category.

New York Book Show Award: Tenements, Towers, and Trash (BD&L) by Julia Wertz was one of a select few books to receive an award at the New York Book Show—a merit award in the Adult Graphic Novel category.
