HBG Big News This Week: July 2-6, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of July 2-6, 2018:

#1 NYT Bestsellers: HBG has 16 titles on the New York Times Bestseller list dated July 15, including three #1s—The President Is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson (Little, Brown & Knopf) remains at #1 on both Print Hardcover Fiction & Combined Print & Ebook lists. Calypso by David Sedaris (Little, Brown) moves back into the #1 position on the Print Hardcover Nonfiction list. As for HBG’s distribution clients, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo by Marlon Bundo with Jill Twiss (Chronicle) holds onto #1 on the Children’s Picture Books list.

Industry news: Barnes & Noble announced Tuesday afternoon that it has fired CEO Demos Parneros “for violations of the company’s policies.” Parneros was named CEO in April 2017 after serving briefly as COO of the company. Read more here: New York Times, Fortune, Publishers Lunch, PW Daily.

Debut spotlight: The buzz is building for Lucy’s Tan’s debut What We Were Promised (L,B, 7/10 OSD)—the novel is a B&N Discover Pick, Amazon Top 10 Pick and iBooks’ Pick for July, with coverage (interviews, reviews, Best of Summer picks) in Real Simple, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, PopSugar, Refinery 29, Bustle, The Millions, Electric Lit, and more. Lucy will kick off a 10-stop tour next week.
