HBG Big News This Week: January 14-18, 2019

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of January 14-18, 2019:

Bestsellers: Holly Black’s The Wicked King (LBYR) debuts at #1 on the New York Times Young Adult Hardcover bestseller list this week. Other HBG titles with strong debuts on the NYT list: The House Next Door by James Patterson (GCP), The Power by Naomi Alderman (Back Bay), We Are Displaced by Malala Yousafzai (LBYR) and The Clean Plate by Gwyneth Paltrow (Goop Press) HBG’s distribution clients have five titles on the list this week.
Walter Dean Myers Awards: the winners and honorees for the fourth annual Walter Dean Myers Awards for Outstanding Children’s Literature, sponsored by We Need Diverse Books, were announced this week, and two LBYR titles were selected – The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan received Walter teen category honors and Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes won in the young readers category.  The Walter Awards Ceremony will be held March 29 at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Phillip K. Dick Award: Claire North’s 84K (Orbit) is a finalist for the 2019 Philip K. Dick Award. The award honors science fiction originally published in paperback. The winner will be announced at Norwescon in Seattle, WA on April 19. The award is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society and the Philip K. Dick Trust.
