HBG Big News This Week: August 6-10, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of August 6-10, 2018:

Bestseller news: HBG has reclaimed the top slot on the Print Hardcover Bestsellers (Fiction) list this week! The President is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson (LB) returns to #1, and Calypso by David Sedaris (LB) remains at #1 on the Audio Nonfiction (Monthly) list. HBG has 14 titles on the list overall. Our distribution clients have 10 titles on the list this week, including one #1 – We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins (Disney-Hyperion), #1 on the Picture Book list. HBG also has 13 titles on the USA Today bestseller list dated August 2. See the full list here.
Sales milestone for TPIM: In addition to its return to the top of the NYT fiction list, the AP announced on Wednesday that The President is Missing has sold more than one million copies in North American since going on sale on June 4! The book returned to the #1 spot on Bookscan’s weekly fiction bestseller chart this week, and its tenure at the top of these lists is one of the longer runs in recent years, making it by far the most successful fiction title of 2018.
Pachinko coming to TV: Min Jin Lee’s bestseller and National Book Award finalist Pachinko (GCP), is being adapted into a TV series by writer and showrunner Soo Hugh. The Hollywood Reporterannounced the news on Wednesday. The series is set to be produced by Apple Studios and Media Res, and author Lee will earn a credit as an executive producer.
Brooklyn Book Festival poster news: This week, the Brooklyn Book Festival committee partnered with the New York Times and released the poster for this year’s Brooklyn Book Festival on theirInstagram feed. The poster was designed by Julia Wertz, illustrator and author of Tenements, Towers & Trash (Black Dog & Leventhal). Wertz will appear as a panelist at the festival on September 16, and she joins the ranks of artists like Chip Kidd in being selected as the festival’s artist.
