HBG Big News This Week: August 27-31, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of August 27-31, 2018:

Bestseller news: James Patterson has the top two titles on the New York Times Print Hardcover Bestsellers (Fiction) list for the second consecutive week! Texas Ranger by James Patterson and Andrew Bourelle (LB) is #1 and The President is Missing by Patterson and Bill Clinton is #2 on the list. Calypso by David Sedaris (LB) remains at #1 on the NYT’s Audio bestseller list. HBG has 15 titles overall and our distribution clients have seven titles on the list, including one #1—We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins (Disney-Hyperion), on the Picture Book list. Coben and Netflix: Netflix has entered into a multi-year exclusive deal with Harlan Coben to develop 14 existing titles and future projects, including his upcoming novel Run Away (GCP, March 2019), into English-language and foreign-language series as well as films that will premiere on Netflix worldwide. Coben will serve as an executive producer on all projects. He currently has two crime drama series on Netflix: Safe, starring Michael C. Hall, and the 2015 French series No Second Chance.

Ned Kelly Awards: Sarah Bailey’sThe Dark Lake (GCP) won the 2018 Ned Kelly Award in the Best First Fiction category. The award is sponsored by the Australian Crime Writers Association and honors the best crime writing in Australia.
