Ann Leckie’s PROVENANCE, read by Adjoa Andoh, Wins 2018 Audie Award for Science Fiction Audiobook

New York, NY — June 1, 2018

Hachette Audio, a division of Hachette Book Group, is pleased to share the news that PROVENANCE was recognized by the Audio Publishers Association as the best Science Fiction audiobook of the year at the 23rd Annual Audies Gala at the New-York Historical Society in Manhattan last night. Published in conjunction with Hachette Audio UK, PROVENANCE was released as an audiobook read by Adjoa Andoh in September 2017 to great acclaim.

Ann Leckie was present to accept the award, saying “I’m so thrilled! Adjoa Andoh is such an amazing reader and she did such a brilliant job with PROVENANCE. It’s been an honor to have her read my work.” Leckie and Andoh’s excellent audiobook collaboration was previously recognized with an Audie nomination for Ancillary Justice in 2016. In PROVENANCE, they returned to the world of Leckie’s Imperial Radch trilogy, which won the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Awards – the first author to win these three science fiction and fantasy honors in one year. PROVENANCE was also nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novel 2018 and the Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel 2018, in addition to winning the recognition of an AudioFile Magazine Earphones Award. AudioFile enthused, “Narrator Adjoah Andoh creates a stunning tapestry of characters within the vast galaxy this audiobook spans.”

“Having recorded the Imperial Radch series and PROVENANCE, I am thrilled that Ann Leckie’s fabulous work has received this award,” said Adjoa Andoh, continuing, “Her books are wonderful to read – disturbing, insightful, gripping and so humane. As with the best Science Fiction, she subtly throws up a mirror to the challenging questions of our day, through a narrative that leaves you breathless at its twists and turns. It’s been a real privilege to be involved in her world!’”

Sarah Shrubb, Audio Publisher of Hachette Audio UK, stated “We’re over the moon about this much-deserved win. Ann is a brilliant writer and Adjoa is a brilliant narrator, and the combination of their two great talents has produced a truly fantastic audiobook.”

Anthony Goff, SVP and US Publisher of Hachette Audio, noted that the three Hachette Audio nominations in the 2018 Science Fiction category (for Leckie’s work, as well as that of bestselling authors N.K. Jemisin and Kim Stanley Robinson) are “a testament to the excellence of our Orbit audio publishing program. We’re honored to get to publish the best in science fiction and fantasy audiobooks year after year, and we appreciate enormously this recognition by the Audio Publishers Association, and the unparalleled Audies judges who put so much time and heart into their important work.”
