Winfield Scott Schley

About the Author

Winfield Scott Schley (1839-1911) served in the American Civil War, also taking part in conflicts in Latin America and Korea. He fought in the Spanish-American War, but eventually retired from the military after his choices in battle were questioned. He also wrote, with James Russell Soley, The Rescue of Greely (1885), an account of his mission in the Arctic.
