Torquato Tasso

About the Author

Torquato Tasso (1544-1595) was a sixteenth-century Italian poet who was widely read into the nineteenth century. Part of a lively literary circle of a rival court to the Medicis, he spent time in an insane asylum. He died shortly before Pope Clement VIII was to crown him “king of the poets.”
