Frederick James Gould

About the Author

Frederick James Gould (1855-1938) was an English educator. As a teenager, he thought he heard heavenly voices, but later began to doubt his Anglican faith. A champion of the 1880s Secularist movement, he emphasized the Bible’s ethical teachings over its supernatural aspects. As a humanist he campaigned for the League of Nations and world peace. His works include On the Threshold of Sex (1909) and The Life-Story of a Humanist (1923).
