Silver Girl

A Novel
By Elin Hilderbrand (Audiobook, 2011)
Meredith Martin Delinn just lost everything: her friends, her homes, her social standing - because her husband Freddy cheated rich investors out of billions of dollars.

Desperate and facing homelessness, Meredith receives a call from her old best friend, Constance Flute. Connie's had recent worries of her own, and the two depart for a summer on Nantucket in an attempt to heal. But the island can't offer complete escape, and they're plagued by new and old troubles alike. When Connie's brother Toby - Meredith's high school boyfriend - arrives, Meredith must reconcile the differences between the life she is leading and the life she could have had.

Set against the backdrop of a Nantucket summer, Elin Hilderbrand delivers a suspenseful story of the power of friendship, the pull of love, and the beauty of forgiveness.

  • AudioFile liked the "bright, cheerful voice" of the narrator of Elin Hilderbrand's THE ISLAND, "the perfect formula for a summer romance."

"The story flows as gently as a summer breeze, carrying the listener to its refreshing conclusion." (AudioFile on The Island).

  • PRAISE FOR THE ISLAND:

"Queen of the summer novel...beguiling...Hilderbrand's portrait of the upper-crust Tate clan through the years is so deliciously addictive that it will be the 'it' beach book of the summer." (Kirkus, Starred Review).

  • PRAISE FOR THE CASTAWAYS:

"The Castaways is a sensitive portrayal of the complexities of friendship. Hilderbrand's characters illustrate the alliances, insecurities, and joys that color adult relationships...When it's done well, as it is here, reading about other people's problems is ever so satisfying." (Washington Post).

  • "Hilderbrand captivates with a racy narrative, topical references, and characters who are both familiar and memorable." (People).

  • PRAISE FOR A SUMMER AFFAIR:

    "Hilderbrand's seventh is voyeuristic fun."
    (People).

  • "A gem of a summer read with a glamorous location, elite lifestyle, and Hilderbrand's appealing take on the constant stress that fills the lives of women everywhere." (Booklist).

  • "Claire's walk on the dark side is pure voyeuristic fun...A perfect summer cocktail of sex, sun and scandal." (Kirkus Reviews).

  • PRAISE FOR BAREFOOT:

"Settle back and prepare to be charmed....Hilderbrand's women move in and out of passion, rivalry, and solidarity in one unforgettable summer, finally reaching that state of wonder and gratitude that comes with sheer survival." (New Orleans Times-Picayune).

  • "Hilderbrand builds fascinating characters, but the real star of the book is the island itself, and the nearly mystical healing power attributed to sand, surf, and salty air. Twenty pages in, you'll be ready to drop everything and head to the beach yourself." (Boston Magazine).
