WorthyKids Editor’s Pick: The Giving Manger

Is it too early?

We’re just rounding the corner into October, but all around us, we’re beginning to see signs of Christmas. And here in the office, we’re starting to see our Christmas books ship out to stores. So early or not, Christmas is on my mind, and this month, I’m excited to highlight a holiday favorite from WorthyKids: The Giving Manger.

What I love about The Giving Manger is that it’s a complete set that includes everything you need to start a new Christmas tradition in your home—a tradition that will move your kids’ focus from getting to giving. In the days leading up to Christmas, family members can place a piece of straw in the manger each time they perform a kind deed or act of service. Filling the manger will become a fun, interactive project for your whole family, prompting even young children to look for ways to serve others.

Allison Hottinger and Lisa Kalberer are moms—and sisters. As they raised their kids, they were struggling, like many of us do, to come up with a way to keep the true meaning of Christmas front and center during the holiday season. They started the tradition of the Giving Manger to encourage their children to look for ways to serve and show kindness to others. And when their friends heard about it, they wanted to join in. And so, The Giving Manger was born.

In the years since, The Giving Manger has brought a new faith-centered tradition to hundreds of thousands of families. Because the box includes everything that’s needed—book, manger, straw, and Baby Jesus figure—it’s easy for families to get started. And what we hear from families is that it brings a sense of peace and meaning to their holidays.

If this sounds like a tradition you want to bring into your own home, I encourage you to check it out. I know it’s only September, but this set is something you’ll want to get early in the season to take full advantage of the tradition.
