Spas and Yoga: Relaxing in San José del Cabo

If you’re looking to relax and rejuvenate during your trip to Mexico, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some of the best spas and yoga studios around San José del Cabo.

Centro Historico

Ixchel Salon & Spa (Morelos 133, tel. 624/142-2330, 9am-7pm Mon.-Sat., 10am-6pm Sun.), inside the El Encanto Inn, offers a full menu of treatments, including massages (50 min. for US$70), facials (50 min. for US$80), manicures, and pedicures. In addition, La Tropicana Inn offers a full list of massage and other wellness therapies on-site.

On the north side of the highway (opposite side from the downtown area), Baja Wellness (Navarette and Chamizal, tel. 624/145-2801, 8am-10pm Mon.-Sun.) offers a range of holistic services, including yoga, massage, alphabiotics, LaStone therapy, a temazcal sweat lodge, Watsu, and meditation.

Zona Hotelera

Cabo Azul has a full-service spa called PAZ (Malecón s/n, Fonatur, tel. 624/163-5100), where a 50-minute massage runs US$120, manicures and pedicures start at US$45, and body treatments like “Draining Onyx” cost US$170-215. In addition, the Hola Grand Faro, The Grand Mayan, and other resorts have on-site spas that are open to the public.

Behind the Mega supermarket, the Mex Sun Day Spa and Beauty Salon (Plaza Garuffi 21/22, tel. 624/151-4507, 9am-7pm Mon.-Fri., 9am-5pm Sun.) has a wide range of spa services available. Treatments include manicures, pedicures, massages (US$30-165), facials (60 min. for US$60), laser treatments (US$35 per session), waxing, and a variety of hair treatments.

Puerto Los Cabos

A spa opened in early 2013 at Hotel El Ganzo (Blvd. Tiburon s/n, La Playita, tel. 624/104-9000, U.S. tel. 855/835-4269, US$250) in the Puerto Los Cabos marina. Details were not yet available when Moon Los Cabos went to print, however their website says: “The spa at El Ganzo has five spacious treatment rooms, as well as a therapy pool, sauna, steam room and indoor gym with Kinesis.” Let us know your experience if you’ve given the spa at Hotel El Ganzo a try.

Playa Costa Azul

The Sea Spa & Salon at the Cabo Surf Hotel (daily 8am-8pm) offers treatments for nails, hair, and body. Types of massage include Thai, Swedish, reflexology, Damiana, warm stone, and deep tissue. There are three treatment rooms available, and the spa uses all natural products. Walk-ins are welcome.


San José now has about a half dozen yoga studios, but some instructors seem to come and go each season. Caryl Leffel teaches yoga classes at her own studio, Mi Cielo Azul (tel. 624/137-3278, US$10-25 per class), located in the Chamizal neighborhood, above Guacamaya’s Restaurant.

The yoga center at Raices y Brazos (Navarrete and Chamizal, tel. 624/142-3794) offers a wide range of yoga styles and intensities for all levels, ages, and body types. Sessions are available daily and start at US$10. The center also offers dance and meditation courses. Baja Wellness (Navarette and Chamizal, tel. 624/145-2801, 8am-10pm Mon.-Sun.) offers consultations and beginning classes as well as more advanced, private sessions in a variety of styles.

Yoga instructor Natasha Grbich teaches courses through Transformative Wellness (San Vicente La Choya, tel. 624/105-6089, 8am-10am Tues.-Thurs., US$10 per session). She offers sessions in Jivamukli and Hatha styles for teachers and more advanced yoga practitioners. Many of the larger resorts offer their own yoga classes for guests, as do Casa Natalia and El Encanto Inn.
