When calm seas settle in for the summer, kayaks can be rented for one of a few breathtaking trips down the Na Pali Coast ending at Polihale. Outfitters Kauai (2827A Po‘ipu Rd., Po‘ipu, 808/742-9667 or 999/742-9887, $230) runs a 16-mile sea kayak adventure along the coast. The tour offers tandem, open-cockpit, or sit-on-top self-bailing kayaks with foot pedal controls, and the tour is only available from mid-May until mid-September on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Kayak Kaua‘i (5-5070 Kuhio Hwy., 808/826-9844) also offers sea kayaking along the Na Pali Coast. It’s a serious adventure only for the very fit and hardy and can only be done in the summer. The kayaking adventure requires 5-6 hours of paddling and runs about $200.
