Hawai‘i Kai Aquatic Thrill Rides

Hawaii Ka‘i Marina and Maunalua Bay are home to all the aquatic thrill rides available in this region for adventure seekers. Wakeboard, water ski, and ride a Bumper Tube and Banana Boat at high speeds in the marina, or Jet Ski, parasail, and drive a sub scooter in the bay. New to the lineup is Jetlev flight, using a controlled, water-propelled jet pack that can send you soaring 30 feet into the air.

Sea Breeze Watersports (377 Keahole St., #E-103, 808/396-0100, opens 8:30am daily), based in the Hawaii Ka‘i Shopping Center, has a wide range of activities on offer. Bumper Tubes and Banana Boat rides are $49 per person, Jet Ski rentals are $49 per person for a two-seater and $69 for a single rider. Jet Ski rates are based on half-hour rides. Parasail flights are $49 per person for a 7- to 10-minute ride, with two people sailing at a time, and Sea Breeze is the only outfitter offering the Jetlev flight, starting at $169 for 15 minutes. They also offer snorkeling, scuba, speed sailing, and surfing lessons, and have discounts for multiple activity reservations.

Island Watersports Hawaii (377 Keahole St., 808/224-0076, 7am-7pm daily), also based in the Hawaii Ka‘i Shopping Center, has the sub scooter, an electric submersible scooters that allow you to explore underwater without diving or scuba gear; $99 for a 20-minute ride. They have kayak tours starting at $99 per person, two-hour whale-watching cruises from November to May for $99, two-hour turtle watching and sunset cruises also for $99 per person. In addition they offer snorkeling, scuba, fishing, and hiking adventure packages.

Based in the Koko Marina Shopping Center, behind Kona Brewing Company, Hawaii Water Sports Center (7192 Kalanianaole Hwy., 808/395-3773, 8:30am-4pm daily) is another operator offering a slew of activities. Bumper tube and Banana Boat rides run $29 per person, wakeboarding and water skiing run $49 per person, and parasailing is $59 per person and they flight side-by-side riders. Jet Skis are also available for $49 per person for two riders, and $69 for a single-person craft. They also offer scuba and snorkeling packages and multiple activity discounts.
