While the best places to stay in Kapa‘a, Kauai‘i might not top the list of high-end luxurious hotels, the few offerings are well worth the stay for oceanfront views, amenities, and relative privacy given their smaller sizes.
Hotel Coral Reef (1516 Kuhio Hwy., 808/822-4481 or 800/843-4659, $110-175) was one of the first hotels in Kapa‘a, and it has recently undergone renovations that have brought a modern island style to the rooms. The hotel is rather small with around 20 rooms and a pool. It sits right on the ocean. All rooms have air-conditioning, microwaves, in-room refrigerators, and flat-screen TVs, and guests receive a continental breakfast. Mountain-bike rentals and barbecue facilities are also offered. Oceanfront suites start at $245. Check the website for pretty good “eSpecials”; they also offer kama‘aina and senior citizen discounts.
The Kauai Country Inn (6440 Olohena Rd., 808/821-0207, www.kauaicountryinn.com, $129-179) has a unique twist—the only private Beatles museum in the United States! A simple continental breakfast is supplied every morning, and all units have private entrances and bathrooms, and a full kitchen or kitchenette. Wireless Internet is available in each of the four gorgeous suites.
