Westminster Abbey is the greatest church in the English-speaking world, where the nation’s kings and queens have been crowned and buried since 1066. The histories of Westminster Abbey and England are almost the same. A thousand years of English history (and 3,000 tombs) lie within its stained-glass splendor and under its stone slabs.

On this hour-plus walk, we’ll stroll through the elaborate Gothic architecture of the church and see some of England’s dearly departed, including the tombs of 29 kings and queens. We’ll see memorials to England’s greatest politicians, scientists, writers, and warriors. And—in the heart of the church—we’ll visit the spot where, one fine day, Prince Charles (or William or baby George) will be crowned the next King of England.
