It's a frigid February in Klover, New York, but despite the cold, La Fermette, the region's gourmet French restaurant, is doing a hopping business in both eat-in and take-out. Charly has his restaurant and his hands full with customers--including the infamous Ugo Buonsarde, a mafioso with a taste for Charly's Tripe a la mode de Caen. February gets grayer when a frequent patron of the restaurant is found dead in her house, an apparent suicide, and it becomes downright dismal when Charly finds a corpse in the downstairs freezer, right on top of the poulet he was about to make into soup. Despite the police chief's warning, Charly just can't help doing some investigating on his own--and what he finds is enough to curdle anyone's milk. . . .
