New York, NY – September 20, 2016 Hachette Audio is proud to announce that seven of its audiobook titles are being honored by the Parents’ Choice Foundation this year. Winning titles included installments in beloved series and by bestselling authors, a story from an award-winning writer that tackles helping children understand 9/11, an audio experience that put the judges to sleep (deliberately), and a nonfiction title that makes learning history fun. These seven audio editions are based on books available in print and ebook formats from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and JIMMY Patterson Books.
September 13, 2016, NEW YORK — Hachette Books announced today the acquisition of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, an intimate memoir from legendary musician Prince’s first wife, Mayte Garcia. The book is slated for publication in April 2017, around the one-year anniversary of Prince’s death, and will be available in a hardcover, eBook, and as an audio edition by Hachette Audio. The book will be edited by Executive Editor Michelle Howry, who acquired world rights from Garcia’s agent, Jennifer Gates, of the Zachary Shuster Harmsworth Literary Agency.
In THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, Garcia, for the first time, shares the richly detailed and deeply personal story of her life and her relationship with Prince: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed), to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership), to the devastating loss of their children that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good. Through it all, they shared a partnership unlike any other in Prince’s life. No one else can tell this singular story or provide a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Prince, both the famously private man and the pioneering, beloved artist, than Mayte, who was with him during some of the most pivotal moments of his personal and professional life. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL (the title of which is inspired by Prince’s 1995 hit song “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,” which celebrated their legendary love story) draws from never-before-seen letters, photos, and memorabilia.

In NOFX, current and former band members, along with writer Jeff Alulis, share the story of one of the world’s most influential and controversial punk bands from the inside: the pranks and drunkenness and fun alongside the horrors of murder, suicide, addiction, riots, and terminal illness.

Reagan Arthur said: “Stephenie Meyer’s considerable storytelling talents have made her one of the most beloved authors in the world. Those talents are on full display in THE CHEMIST, and we are over the moon that she’s returned to the world of adult fiction with this exciting, edge-of-your-seat thriller.”

Hachette Book Group and KADOKAWA Corporation announced today that they have entered into an agreement to create a new venture, joining HBG’s Yen Press imprint, a leader in the US publication of Japanese manga and light novels, with KADOKAWA, a major Japanese publisher. KADOKAWA will hold majority ownership, with 51% of the business to be acquired through its US investment company and HBG controlling 49% of the business. The transaction is expected to be completed by end of April, at which point Yen Press will function as Yen Press LLC, a joint venture between HBG and Kadokawa.
Yen Press is one of the largest English language manga imprints in North America, specializing in manga and light novels, publishing a broad range of titles including English translations of Japan originated titles, manga adaptations of novels by bestselling Hachette authors like James Patterson and Stephenie Meyer, and original manga developed at Yen Press. The joint venture will continue to leverage HBG’s strengths in manga publishing, distribution, sales, and marketing. Moreover, the partnership will enable Yen Press and KADOKAWA to maximize marketing collaboration between book publishing and anime distribution (through KADOKAWA’s expertise in the anime marketplace), while also seeking to expand ebook distribution, to maximize the growth potential of Japanese content in the North American market.
Michael Pietsch, CEO of HBG, says, “This new partnership with KADOKAWA is an exciting opportunity for HBG -- the venture will further strengthen our Yen Press brand, and allow us to leverage KADOKAWA’s superb reputation in both manga and light novel genres, as well as their digital distribution and anime platforms. And this important new partnership is in extremely able hands, with Kurt Hassler as Publisher – no one is more perfectly suited to lead this new venture than Kurt, who has built the publishing program to where it is today.“
Hachette Audio is pleased to announce that the audiobook edition of HAMILTON: THE REVOLUTION will be read by Mariska Hargitay. Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the hit musical, adds more than 200 funny, revealing, personal “footnotes” to the recording, while co-author Jeremy McCarter lends his voice to the introduction.
Lin-Manuel Miranda made the casting decision for the audio edition of his book decisively: "Mariska, in addition to being the #1 fan of the show, represents, to me, much of what HAMILTON is about - tough, smart, and New York. She’s an essential part of this city; it feels only right for her to narrate the story.” He added, during a break from recording his notes in the Hachette Audio NYC recording studio, "and she has a killer voice! I want to hear her telling the story.”
The award-winning actress, perhaps best known for her role as Olivia Benson on NBC’s long- running Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, has seen Hamilton on stage multiple times. Hargitay enthused about her hand-picked role in this production: "I'm hard pressed to express how thrilled and honored I am to do this. Lin-Manuel’s Hamilton enthralls me, and to think that I get to play a part in telling the story of how this masterpiece came into existence, it's really just a lot to take in.”

“I’m really pleased to be the only YouTuber who has published a book in the last couple of years… oh wait,” said Caspar Lee. “In all seriousness it’s been so interesting to hear about all the things my family went through when we were living in South Africa but that I wasn’t aware of because I was too young. Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, is excited to announce the acquisition of LIFE & WORK by legendary writer, director, and artist David Lynch and noted journalist, critic and author Kristine McKenna. Ben Greenberg, Executive Editor at GCP, acquired North American rights at auction from Chris Parris-Lamb at The Gernert Company. The book is tentatively scheduled to be published in hardcover, e-book and audio editions in 2017. UK rights were sold to Francis Bickmore at Canongate and to Uli Genzler at Heyne in Germany; sales in several other territories around the world are in process.
LIFE & WORK will be a hybrid of memoir by David Lynch, a leading figure on the cultural landscape for almost four decades, and biography by Kristine McKenna, who has been a friend of Lynch and a close observer of his work since his first feature, Eraserhead (1977). In the book, Lynch will truly open up for the first time about his lifetime of extraordinary creativity, the friendships he’s made along the way, and the struggles he’s faced – sometimes successful, sometimes not – to bring his visionary projects to fruition.
McKenna’s biographical sections will be based on her new interviews with approximately 90 of Lynch’s friends, ex-wives, family members, actors, agents, musicians and collaborators in various fields, all interwoven into the story of Lynch’s life as a director of legendary films. David Lynch will read these remembrances and respond — essentially riffing on his own life.
Megan Tingley, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, announced today the acquisition of The Magic Misfits, the debut middle-grade series by acclaimed award-winning actor and bestselling author Neil Patrick Harris. The acquisition for North American rights was negotiated by Laura Nolan of Kuhn Projects and Alvina Ling, Editor in Chief of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, who will edit the series with Rex Ogle, Senior Editor.
Scheduled to launch in Spring 2017 as an illustrated hardcover and ebook, and also in audio (which Harris will narrate), The Magic Misfits is Harris’s first foray into writing for young readers and follows the enormous success of his bestselling adult memoir Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography. Well known for his creative genius on the screen, stage, and page, Harris, with this latest endeavor, combines his passion as a magic enthusiast with his more recent experiences as a parent to craft a series that will inspire and entertain kids.
“Books are awesome. Reading and books have become a mainstay in my family, and they have gotten me thinking in a new way about the power of storytelling,” commented Harris. “Playing with elements of magic, adventure, and friendship, The Magic Misfits is the kind of series that would have thrilled me as a kid, and I hope it does just that for today’s young readers.”
Hachette Audio is happy to share the news that five of its audiobook titles are being honored by the Parents’ Choice Foundation this year. Winning titles ranged from inspirational nonfiction to a story in verse about a refugee child finding hope, to fun fiction with heart from bestselling authors. These five audio editions are based on books available in print and ebook formats from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and JIMMY Patterson Books.
Anthony Goff, VP and Publisher of Hachette Audio said: “Our production staff is comprised of some of the most talented audio directors, producers, engineers - and of course narrators - in the business. It’s always such a pleasure to hear their work, and never more exciting than when they tackle creative projects in adapting books from Hachette Book Group’s young readers division. We are so grateful to collaborate with the brilliant LBYR & JIMMY teams, and work to make sure our audio editions bring the stellar storytelling of our illustrious authors to life in a dazzling way.”
A Gold Award went to the young readers’ edition of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai’s memoir – I AM MALALA: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World (which was also recognized in audio with a GRAMMY award for Best Children’s Album earlier this year), with co-writer Patricia McCormick, and read by Neela Vaswani. The Parents’ Choice review had this to say about I AM MALALA: “Her message is empowering, but the story itself feels like a riveting coming-of-age narrative about a young girl, who happens to be growing up in the shadow of the Taliban…. Neela Vaswani, an accomplished writer and activist herself, has a lyrical voice, and reads this compelling story in a way that will leave listeners disappointed when it ends.”
Hachette’s second Gold honor was bestowed on Chris Colfer’s author-read audiobook edition of THE LAND OF STORIES: BEYOND THE KINGDOMS, the fourth in this #1 New York Times bestselling series from the fan-favorite young author and tv/film star. “With the rich material Colfer's written, and his natural acting skills, it's no surprise the narration feels flawless. He gives his dysfunctional characters (a mix from classic children's literature and fairy tales) the perfect narrative sturm und drang,” said Parents’ Choice on the selection.

Grand Central Life & Style, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, is pleased to announce the acquisition of a new book that will be a comprehensive, fun and inspiring guide to the art of food crafting by actress Sarah Michelle Gellar. Karen Murgolo, VP, Editorial Director of Grand Central Life & Style, acquired world rights from Dan Strone of Trident Media Group. The as-yet untitled book has a scheduled publication date of spring 2017.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is thrilled to share with the world her passion for food crafting, which has allowed her to spend fun and creative time with her kids while preparing delicious, healthy food they love to eat. Just today, her culinary lifestyle brand, Foodstirs, co-created with Galit Laibow and Gia Russo, was announced publicly. Gellar’s crafting journey began when she realized that her kids would be more adventurous with food if they were involved with the process of making it. She also knew that if the food looked fun, it was far more likely that her kids would enjoy it. Why stop with making healthy brownies when you could decorate them? By getting kids in the kitchen and encouraging exploration, the possibilities are endless. Gellar will take readers step-by-step through each project in the book, from concept to execution, and all will be completely accessible.
Of the acquisition, Murgolo said, “We are thrilled to partner with Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is very committed to the idea of simple food crafting as a way to bring parents and children together to create fun, non-processed food. She has really done her homework on this subject; this book and her food crafting kits should appeal to parents everywhere.”

Reagan Arthur, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown and Company, announced today that Little, Brown has acquired THE LIFE-CHANGING MAGIC OF NOT GIVING A F*CK by former Simon & Schuster editor Sarah Knight. Little, Brown acquired world rights from literary agent Jenn Joel of ICM. The book, an irreverent and practical homage to Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up will be edited by Executive Editor Michael Szczerban for publication in December 2015.
Michael Szczerban said, “As a colleague, I always admired Sarah’s talent for connecting readers with the perfect book. Now she has written one herself: as smart as it is witty, as persuasive as it is irreverent. She may not have set out to be a guru, but she has written my mantra.”
Marie Kondo’s #1 bestseller The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and inspired countless people to jettison the garbage that’s cluttering up their lives. Many “KonMari" devotees have, in fact, experienced remarkable transformations that extend far beyond their junk drawers. One of those people is Knight, a corporate lifer, who quit her job, reorganized her husband’s sock drawer, and felt fantastic. Then she decided to take the next step: clearing out her mental clutter.
“Ever since reading Marie Kondo’s terrific book, I found myself walking around telling people how much better my life is now that I can see all my socks. But then I started thinking, it’s not really about socks, is it? And when I went beyond my physical space and applied the lessons I learned from Kondo to my mental space—and admitting when I well and truly do not give a f*ckabout some things, in service to being able to give quality F*cks to others, and acting on it—that was when my life really changed,” Sarah Knight said.
Grand Central Publishing (GCP), a division of Hachette Book Group, announces the acquisition of a first collection of humorous essays by acclaimed comedy writer-actor-director Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project). Ben Greenberg, Executive Editor at GCP, made a preemptive offer and acquired World rights from Richard Abate at 3Arts entertainment. The as-yet untitled book – and accompanying audio edition -- are currently scheduled to be published in the Fall of 2017.
Barinholtz’s collection of hilarious stories, humorous anecdotes and funny tales will tell you how the son of two Polish butchers rose from being a Chicago street thug to a Tea Party activist and reality show watcher. If you like to laugh at funny stories and are looking for delicious, heart-healthy crockpot recipes, this is the book for you.
About his first foray into publishing, Barinholtz said, “I’m thrilled to be able to share my thoughts with the world, and my piping hot takes will cover all the bases: Comedy, showbiz, sex, Hollywood, the Chicago Bulls of the 90's, sex and drugs, movies, politics, the “Biz”, pizza and travel, religion and entertainment.” He also added, “ I just want people to say "OH! THAT GUY! YEAH, HE’S FUNNY, I’LL BUY HIS BOOK, WHAT THE HELL, I'VE GOT LIKE A FIVE HOUR FLIGHT.”
Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, is excited to announce the acquisition of HAMILTON -- a backstage pass to the groundbreaking, hit musical Hamilton -- by Tony Award winning composer-lyricist-actor Lin-Manuel Miranda. Ben Greenberg, Executive Editor at GCP, acquired the North American rights from Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller and Andy McNicol at William Morris Endeavor. HAMILTON will be published in April 2016 in hardcover and ebook. The book will be produced by Melcher Media, creators of other successful Broadway books such as Wicked: The Grimmerie and Rent.
Before it moved to Broadway, tickets to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton were nearly impossible to get, with a sold-out run at the Public Theater and taste-makers from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim to Ben Brantley and Peter Marks raving about it. Blending musical styles from hip-hop and R&B to pop and classic musical theater, Miranda’s Hamilton is a sexy, vibrant, and enduring re-imagining of the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. Debuting in January 2015, Hamilton has already received numerous awards, including ten Lucille Lortel Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, and a Drama Critic’s Award for Best Musical. The show is currently in previews and officially opens on Broadway on August 6.
Like the musical, HAMILTON will offer a new kind of experience for the reader. A hybrid American history/ look inside the mind of a visionary playwright, HAMILTON will seamlessly integrate the story of Alexander Hamilton – from his beginnings as a scrappy immigrant orphan, to his military career, his tumultuous family life, and his crucial role in American independence – with behind-the-scenes show content and a deep dive into its brilliant lyrics, including annotations by Miranda. The book will be designed to look like an object from Hamilton’s era, and will include photos and artifacts in addition to interviews, essays and sidebars to accompany the central narrative of Hamilton’s life story and how and why Miranda crafted that life into the stunning stage work over the course of six years.
Megan Tingley, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, announced today the upcoming publication of Thunder Boy Jr., the debut picture book by National Book Award–winning and bestselling author Sherman Alexie with illustrations by critically acclaimed picture book artist Yuyi Morales. Alexie’s Thunder Boy Jr. will release on May 3, 2016, as a jacketed hardcover and was edited by Alvina Ling, Editor in Chief, and Associate Editor, Bethany Strout. The acquisition for world rights was made by Tingley with Nancy Stauffer at Nancy Stauffer Associates for the author and Charlotte Sheedy at Charlotte Sheedy Literary Agency representing the artist. This is Alexie’s first title for young readers since his enormously popular novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian in 2007, which has sold over 1.5 million copies to date.
Thunder Boy Jr. tells the story of a little boy who is named after his dad. But Thunder Boy Jr. doesn’t want to share a name; he wants a name that is all his own, and he goes through many possibilities—Not Afraid of Ten Thousand Teeth? Touch the Clouds? Old Toys Are Awesome? Just when all hope is lost, his dad helps him find the perfect name, one that celebrates the love between father and son.
“In my family, we give one another Indian names to tease each other, and I was playing with that tradition in this book,” said Alexie. “I love that there will be a picture book with a happy Indian family! Seeing the sketches for the first time of Yuyi’s gorgeous art just made me cry with joy.”
“For years the work of Sherman Alexie has been read, admired, and shared in my family,” commented Morales. “One Christmas, my son gave The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian to his grandparents as a gift, wanting them to feel the force of Sherman's stories. What an honor it is to be part of his thunderous work!”
J.P. Leventhal, publisher of Black Dog & Leventhal, an imprint of Hachette Books, announced today the forthcoming publication of JERRY ON JERRY: The Unpublished Jerry Garcia Interviews, a collection of some of the most candid interviews with the beloved Grateful Dead front man. Publishing in November 2015, the book is timed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the band and the 20th anniversary of Jerry's passing. The book will be available in a special audio edition from Hachette Audio, featuring more than eight hours of the original audio recordings covering Jerry's thoughs on religion, politics, his personal life, and his creative process, as well as previously unreleased live musical recordings.
Edited by former Grateful Dead publicist and the band's authorized biographer, Dennis McNally, and curated with the cooperation of the Jerry Garcia Family estate, JERRY ON JERRY will mark the first time these insightful and intimate interviews with Jerry Garcia have ever been made available to the public. Here Jerry speaks openly about everything from growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area and his first encounters with early R&B to his thoughts on songwriting, LSD, the Beats and Neal Cassady, government, movies, and more. Former Financial Times journalist Alan Friedman will write the long-awaited biography of Silvio Berlusconi, the former Prime Minister of Italy. Written with Berlusconi’s full cooperation, BERLUSCONI will offer an unvarnished look at the billionaire media mogul’s astonishing life. The book will publish in Italy by Rizzoli in early October and in the U.S. by Hachette later in the fall.
In the tradition of the Frost/Nixon interviews and with the same unfettered access of Walter Isaacson in his biography of Steve Jobs, Alan Friedman chronicles Silvio Berlusconi’s incredible rise to power from cruise ship crooner to real estate tycoon, from founding the first commercial television network in history to turning AC Milan into a world-class soccer club, and then ultimately becoming the longest-serving Italian Prime Minister in history. Culled from more than 100 hours of interviews and filled with revelations involving many current and former heads of state, BERLUSCONI will detail the life and times of one of the world’s most provocative living public figures.
“This is a remarkable story about a hugely controversial and iconic international figure, a man who reshaped his country and was a witness to history at a time of epochal change. We are delighted to publish this book as part of our effort at Hachette Books to create a dialogue with American readers about provocative subjects,” said Mauro DiPreta, publisher of Hachette Books, a new division of the Hachette Book Group.
“Only a journalist of Friedman’s caliber could pull this off and get Berlusconi to really open up. In addition, Friedman has packed this book with fresh revelations that take the reader from the White House to the Kremlin and offer rare insights and behind-the-scenes stories that touch on the war in Iraq, the Arab Spring and the overthrow of Qaddafi in Libya and the role of the IMF and world leaders in the recent eurozone financial crisis,” said Massimo Turchetta, General Manager at Rizzoli in Milan.
James Patterson is launching a children’s book imprint at Little, Brown & Company called jimmy patterson that will be unwaveringly focused on one goal: turning kids into lifelong readers. The announcement was made today by Michael Pietsch, Chief Executive Officer of Hachette Book Group, and Reagan Arthur, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown and Company.
The defining mission of jimmy patterson will reflect Patterson’s most heartfelt goals: to inspire kids to become willing, self-propelled readers; to help teachers, booksellers, and librarians get the tools, opportunities, and skills they need to accomplish this important duty; and to identify the right books for each child by celebrating a compelling diversity of human voices and experiences.
The imprint’s purpose is not just to publish compulsively readable books by James Patterson and other writers, but also to provide resources, strategies, and programs that serve the country’s librarians, booksellers, teachers, and parents. Patterson’s profits from the imprint will go to scholarships for teachers; helping bookstores; supporting school libraries; increasing the reach of his pro-reading website, ReadKiddoRead; and distributing books to kids who can’t afford them.
“James Patterson is a man on a mission: to save lives by making great books available to all kids,” Pietsch said. “This new imprint is an exciting way of combining his force as the world’s best-selling author with his inspiring message about getting kids reading. I can’t think of anyone better equipped with tools and experiences to revolutionize children’s book publishing. With his deep commitment to reading and his let’s-solve-this-problem approach, he is the ideal founder for an imprint that aligns with Hachette Book Group’s tradition of fostering creativity and encouraging risk-taking and innovation.”
Hachette Book Group (HBG) has announced that they have entered into an agreement with Kids Can Press (KCP). Under this agreement, HBG will be selling and distributing all titles published by KCP throughout the world, effective February 1, 2016.
Kids Can Press, which is based in Toronto, Canada, and is a division of Corus Entertainment Inc., has been distributed by University of Toronto Press and sold in the U.S. through a variety of commission sales groups. Among its long list of award-winning books for children, the KCP library includes the Franklin the Turtle series by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark, which is the single most successful franchise in the history of Canadian children’s publishing, the Scaredy Squirrel and Chester series by Mélanie Watt, and the acclaimed CitizenKid™ collection.
“We are very pleased to have forged this new partnership with Hachette Client Services,” said Lisa Lyons Johnston, President of Kids Can Press. “They have an impressive international reputation and we are confident that joining forces with the team at Hachette will propel awareness and sales of Kids Can Press books.”
Todd McGarity, Vice President of Hachette Client Services, added, “We are extremely excited to be adding Kids Can Press to our family of clients. For over forty years, they have consistently produced wonderful fiction and nonfiction children’s books, and we are anxious to expose these titles to an even broader audience throughout the world.”
Next week Orbit will publish the first installments of a new fantasy story by acclaimed author K.J. Parker, to be serialized digitally until the series has concluded, followed by a print and digital release, Orbit publisher Tim Holman announced today.
The first three installments of The Two of Swords will be published on April 21st, with new installments released monthly through the rest of the year. Each will be published internationally.
The writing of the full The Two of Swords cycle has not yet been completed. While Parker knows how the story will end, there are many routes the characters could take to get there. The Two of Swords’s cast is large even for an epic fantasy story, with the viewpoint perspective changing in each installment.
“What drew me to this project was the opportunity to, quite literally, make history,” said Parker about this new project; “a broad, unified sweep of significant events, witnessed by a wide spectrum of diverse characters – farm boys, soldiers, spies, tradesmen and emperors; rather than run a dozen storylines in parallel, I've used a sort of relay-race structure, passing the narrative baton from observer to observer. I've tried to make each section both a self-contained novella and a cog in the larger machine.”
Orbit announces the acquisition of two science fiction novels by Ann Leckie, author of the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning Ancillary Justice and its sequel, Ancillary Sword. Ancillary Sword has also been nominated for this year’s Nebula Award and, it was announced this week, Hugo Award for Best Novel.
The first novel is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2017 and will be set in the same universe as her previous Ancillary books. The second will be an unrelated science fiction novel. Both novels will be published simultaneously in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Ancillary Justice was Leckie’s debut, and the first novel ever to win all three of the prestigious Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Awards, honoring the best works in science fiction. Both Ancillary Justice and Ancillary Sword were praised for the quality of their writing, their unique and innovative ideas, and their awareness of social issues. NPR Books called Ancillary Justice “assured, gripping, and stylish,” while the New York Times praised Ancillary Sword as “powerful.”

Grand Central Publishing (GCP), a division of Hachette Book Group, is excited to announce the acquisition for its Forever imprint of the Hacker Series, five novels by #1 New York Times bestselling author Meredith Wild. The first four books in the series, which were originally self-published by the author – Hardwired, Hardpressed, Hardline, and Hard Limit – will be released as Forever ebook editions on April 7 with Forever trade paperback editions following on May 12. The highly anticipated fifth and final book in the series, Hard Love, will be released simultaneously in both ebook and trade paperback editions on September 15.
Rights to the Hacker Series have already been sold in 12 countries, including Transworld in the UK, who will also release their edition of the first four ebooks on April 7.
The Hacker Series is a major self-publishing success story. The series has already sold 1.2 million ebooks and approximately 200,000 print-on-demand trade paperbacks.
National accounts like Barnes & Noble and Hastings initially placed modest orders, but found they had to reorder frequently to keep the books on the shelves. “The rapid sales of Wild’s Hacker books caught my attention,” said Jules Herbert, Romance Buyer at Barnes & Noble. “Wild is definitely an author to watch.”

Hachette Books publisher and Gold’s editor, Mauro DiPreta, adds: “You can read Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill and Stephen Covey, but no one can give you the real world experience on how to succeed like Ari Gold."

Mauro DiPreta, publisher of Hachette Books, the new namesake imprint of Hachette Book Group, announced today the acquisition of a provocative, witty, and heartfelt book on the downsides of marriage by entertainment icon and outspoken advocate Whoopi Goldberg in a deal with the Creative Artists Agency. This as-yet untitled work will draw from her years of personal experience through marriages and other relationships, which ultimately led her to realize that marriage isn’t for everybody. The book is slated for publication in September of 2015 and will be available as an audio book by Hachette Audio and as an e-book.
For more than thirty years Whoopi Goldberg has been an exciting, envelope-pushing public figure of many stripes: “EGOT” award-winning actor, comedienne, singer, songwriter, author, political activist and talk show host. In the new book, Whoopi will speak openly, and with her trademark wit and wisdom about why marriage isn’t for everyone, how being alone can be satisfying, and how what’s ultimately most important is understanding who you are and what in life makes you happy. Wise, funny, and conversation-starting, Whoopi’s message is sure to resonate with the millions of people who struggle with relationships – and what they ultimately want in life – every day.
Whoopi Goldberg says: “I get to hear from a lot of different people about relationships and this got me trying to figure out why the divorce rate is SO high. It occurred to me that as one who has done it badly often, I might have some insight into why a person might not put her best foot forward in a relationship. I’ve realized there are certain things you have to come to terms with in life, like managing your own expectations, telling the truth, reconciling true love with other aspects of your life, including wealth or even celebrity. It’s hard to really know the other person’s agenda, but if someone says ‘you complete me’…RUN!!!”

Reagan Arthur, publisher of Little, Brown and Company, announced today that Little, Brown, a division of Hachette Book Group, has acquired World rights for PRESENCE by social psychologist Amy Cuddy. The book was acquired by executive editor Tracy Behar in a deal negotiated by Richard Pine at Inkwell Management. The book is slated for publication in fall 2015 and will be available as an audio book by Hachette Audio.
In PRESENCE, Dr. Cuddy will reveal that we have the power not only to affect how others see us, but also to change how we see ourselves and even to alter our own chemistry by making small, nonverbal, incremental tweaks—such as “power posing”—that ignite the power of the mind/body connection. By learning to connect authentically with our own thoughts and feelings, we can connect with others, and therefore increase their respect for us, make what we say and do more memorable, and heighten our self-confidence in ways that are both measurable and sustainable. As Dr. Cuddy says, “Don't fake it 'til you make it. Fake it 'til you become it."
There is no one more qualified to write this book: Cuddy is a professor and researcher at Harvard Business School, where she studies how nonverbal behavior and snap judgments affect people from the classroom to the boardroom. Her 2012 TED talk on body language is now up to more than 20 million views and currently ranks second in the top-ten most viewed TED talks of all time. TIME magazine named Cuddy one of 2012's “Game Changers,” and the World Economic Forum named her one of 2014’s Young Global Leaders.
Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, is excited to announce the acquisition of a debut book by Josh “Fat Jew” Ostrovsky. Executive Editor Ben Greenberg acquired the North American rights in a limited submission from Byrd Leavell of Waxman Leavell. Tentatively entitled MONEY PIZZA RESPECT, the book and accompanying audio edition are currently scheduled for a Fall 2015 publication. Ostrovsky will be writing the book with David Oliver Cohen, co-author of the national bestseller White Girl Problems.
With his outrageous sense of humor, Josh "Fat Jew" Ostrovsky has attracted millions of devoted followers on his Instagram and Twitter. In his forthcoming debut book, MONEY PIZZA RESPECT, Josh relates one insanely hilarious story from his life after another—from puking on his grandfather after a bender to hiring prostitutes to come to his apartment for the sole purpose of reenacting scenes from Mel Gibson's Braveheart. The book will also contain ridiculous photos and captions that have catapulted Josh to fame, or whatever this might be called.
Of publishing his first book, Josh said, “Whoops, I just made reading hip again.”
Reagan Arthur, publisher of Little, Brown and Company, announced today the acquisition of an in-depth biography of legendary entertainer Joan Rivers by Little, Brown Editor-in-Chief Judy Clain in a deal with David Kuhn of Kuhn Projects. JOAN RIVERS: A Life will be the definitive book about Rivers’s tumultuous, victorious, tragic, glamorous, and fascinating life, told by longtime Vanity Fair and New York Times journalist Leslie Bennetts. The book is slated for publication in 2016 and will be available as an audio book by Hachette Audio and as an e-book.
Best known for her thoughtful and newsy Vanity Fair profiles of major stars including Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Richard Gere, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Demi Moore (among others), Leslie Bennetts has been writing about performers and the culture industry for more than forty years. She was the first to get Jennifer Aniston to open up and candidly address rumors after her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005 and may be the only reporter ever to evoke tears from Hilary Clinton in an interview. Bennetts’s experience carefully crafting richly drawn portraits full of entertaining, complex, and surprising detail combined with her access to the hundreds of comedians, friends, and business associates that played essential roles in Rivers’s remarkable life and career makes her uniquely qualified to pen a biography that will be as bold, pioneering, and culturally significant as Joan Rivers herself was.
Leslie Bennetts says: “Joan Rivers' life story was, in every way, a remarkably dramatic roller-coaster ride characterized by triumphant highs and devastating lows, one that is both wildly entertaining and deeply moving. But Rivers' career was also enormously significant in American cultural history, breaking down barriers for women in television and comedy and continually redefining the acceptable boundaries of truth-telling for women in public life. It's hard to imagine a more compelling subject for a book – or one that would be more fun.”
Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, is honored to announce the acquisition of the last novel by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Oscar Hijuelos. In addition, Grand Central has acquired a never-before-published short story by Hijuelos, Another Spaniard in the Works. Gretchen Young, VP, Executive Editor, acquired world rights to the novel and short story from Jennifer Lyons, President of Jennifer Lyons Literary Agency. The book, the short story, and an audio edition of the novel are tentatively scheduled for publication in the Fall of 2015.
Twain and Stanley Enter Paradise was inspired by the real life friendship between two towering figures of the late 19th century, famed author and humorist Mark Twain and legendary explorer Sir Henry Morton Stanley. The novel employs a variety of narrative forms to imagine key points along the arc of their 37-year relationship, from their early days as journalists in the American West, to their long admiration and support of each other’s writing, their mutual hatred of slavery, their common suffering from bouts of bad health, and their social life together in the dazzling literary circles of the period. In addition, Hijuelos conjures up a fictitious journey to Cuba undertaken by Twain and Stanley to search for the latter’s adoptive father (both men actually had visited Cuba, though separately and at different periods of life).
Forever, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing (GCP), a division of Hachette Book Group, has acquired the world rights from Kristyn Keene of ICM to the next three novels by S.C. Stephens, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Thoughtless series. Beth de Guzman, VP, Digital and Paperback Publisher, acquired the books and Megha Parekh will edit.
Stephens was one of the trailblazers in self-publishing, charting high on retail ebook bestseller lists with her novels Thoughtless and Effortless. The third book in the series, Reckless, debuted at #1 on the New York Times eBook fiction bestseller list.
Stephens’s first book for Forever, Thoughtful, is a retelling of the events in Thoughtless from the point of view of Kellan Kyle, the book’s hero. It will be published in simultaneous print and ebook editions in February 2015 with a second book following in the Fall of 2015. The third book is scheduled for the Spring of 2016.
“For decades romance publishers held on to the notion that love triangles and rock-star heroes don’t sell. S.C. Stephens smashed that to pieces. We’re thrilled to publish this maverick author and to finally give everyone what they’ve been waiting for: the story as told by Kellan,” says Beth de Guzman.

Reagan Arthur, publisher of Little, Brown and Company, announced today that Little, Brown has acquired The Life and Legend of Chris Kyle: American Sniper, Navy SEAL, an original e-book by journalist Michael J. Mooney to be published on April 23.
America has been fascinated with and has celebrated Chris Kyle—a U.S. Navy SEAL who is known as the most lethal sniper in the history of the American military—since well before Kyle was tragically shot and killed by another veteran on February 2 of this year. This desire to know much more about Kyle, and to pay proper tribute to his life, continues. On March 21, Dallas’s D Magazine published a major story about Chris Kyle by staff writer and contributor to GQ, Outside, and Grantland Michael J. Mooney, who had been spending time with Kyle and reporting intimately on him for over nine months before Kyle was killed. The Life and Legend of Chris Kyle goes beyond that magazine piece to give a fuller sense of Kyle, his life, and his death with more great and revealing stories. Mooney sheds light on Kyle working with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, showing them going to gun ranges and ranches, bonding over guns and whiskey and the camaraderie of fellow servicemen—a rough but often effective kind of group therapy.
Mooney also shares deeply personal and previously untold stories from Kyle’s childhood, anecdotes told exclusively to Mooney by Kyle’s wife and his closest friends about him in high school, in the rodeo, and growing up with two dreams: to be a cowboy and to be in the Marines. (Kyle ended up in the SEALs simply because the Marine recruiter was out to lunch when he first came into the recruitment building.)

Paul has become an institution, immensely popular with and beloved by millions of fans, and the story of his getting and staying there deserves a deep, frank, fair book. I’d love to read this life in Norman’s hands.”
Alan Samson said, “This is one of the most exciting biographies we have ever commissioned, because Philip Norman is destined to be the ideal chronicler of Sir Paul’s extraordinary life.”

“Many people on Main Street distrust Wall Street right now, yet few can put their finger on why. Greg Smith’s candid account of his years at Goldman Sachs does just that,” says Jamie Raab, Executive VP of Hachette Book Group & Publisher, Grand Central Publishing. “Reading about his adventures as he rose from an idealistic intern to a vice-president, who felt the world’s most prestigious bank had lost its way, helped me finally understand how an elite few enrich themselves at the expense of the rest of us.
