Five Fun Facts
1. Throughout writing the Immortality Bites series, Michelle always imagined Hugh Jackman as her master vampire hero Thierry de Bennicoeur. Therefore, she was convinced he was the Sexiest Man Alive years before the rest of North America.
2. Vampires have always been a favorite subject of Michelle’s. There’s so much room to explore—they can be funny, scary, sexy, and a great metaphor for the misunderstood and put-upon members of society that prefer to stay in the shadows lest they be condemned simply for existing. And everyone, at some time in their lives, have felt like a outcast, haven’t they? Maybe this is why vampire fiction is so popular and that the vamps in recent years have become much more humanized.
3. Since it’s Michelle’s home town (or, at least, the nearest large city to her home town) she chose Toronto to be the setting for her vampires. As a writer, one is always told to “write what you know.” Since vampires don’t actually exist (do they??) Michelle figured she should at least know the location.
4. People ask how much of heroine, Sarah Dearly, is like the author. Well, Sarah and Michelle definitely share a sarcastic sense of humor (which, Michelle admits, comes out on the page sometimes much better than it comes out in real life). Other things they have in common: Michelle wanted to be an actress, but is not an actress. She worked as a waitress and bartender for a while, but wasn’t particularly good at either. Other than that, they’re very different. For example, Michelle totally would have chosen Quinn over Thierry. Well...probably. Can’t she have both?
5. Michelle is a huge Twilight fan. This has very little to do with her novels (except for the vampire thing), but she just thought she’d mention it. She is Team Jacob, but Sarah Dearly would definitely be Team Edward.
