Michael Cunningham was the photographer for Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats and Queens: Portraits of Black Women and Their Fabulous Hair. Two images from the traveling exhibition of Crowns were featured by the Smithsonian's Anacostia Museum. His work has also been featured in the New York Times and Ebony, among other publications. Cunningham is the executive director of Urban Shutterbugs, a nonprofit organization that teaches photography to inner-city youth. He has one daughter, Kamari, and resides in Washington, DC.
