Author Bio

At age five, Jane Graves wrote and illustrated her first book, Padre the Mexican Mouse. It was a hit among family and friends, but failed to make the bestseller lists. And when she realized she'd named her dashing young mouse hero "Father," she was crushed.

Not one to let early failures keep her down, Jane attended the University of Oklahoma, where she earned a B.A. in Journalism in the Professional Writing program. Now the author of seventeen novels, she is a seven time finalist for Romance Writers of America's Rita Award, the industry's highest honor, and is the recipient of two National Readers' Choice Awards, the Booksellers' Best Award, and the Golden Quil, among others.

Jane is a "head in the clouds" writer married to an engineer who never met a detail he didn't like. She writes romantic comedy that's just a little bit crazy, which reflects her philosophy of life—there are very few crises that a good laugh and a glass of cheap wine can't solve. Jane lives in the Dallas area with her husband of twenty-eight years and her cat, Isabel, who kindly keeps her lap warm while she writes.

FAVORITE WEBSITES

I'm a webaholic, but I'm easily bored, so I'm always checking out something new. Because I'm a cat lover, some of my favorite sites are catsinsinks.com, kittenwars.com, and stuffonmycat.com. Cats and humor is a great combo, which is why my crazy kitty, Isabel, has her own space on my website. And the pursuit of a good laugh is why I also check out Miss Snark's blog, a literary agent who tells the straight story about the publishing world. She has a poodle, though, not a cat, but I don't hold that against her.

FAVORITE BOOKS

As a kid, if something piqued my interest, I found a book about it and immersed myself in it. I read everything from the Little House books to the Black Stallion series to Greek myths to biographies to the classics, and also nonfiction that taught me how to perform magic tricks, take care of my horse, and train my dog. My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, and Gone With the Wind is a close second. The first romance novel I ever read was Judith McNaught's A Kingdom of Dreams, a wonderful historical romance that made me fall in love with the genre.
